Microsoft Business Central Release Wave 2 2024
Microsoft schedules bi-annual release plans for Business Central, which include new features and enhancements to improve user experience, optimize performance, and expand the system’s capabilities. These new functionalities are scheduled to be released between April 2024 and September 2024.
Please note delivery timelines are subject to change and some project features may not be launched as planned.
This release will again demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to Copilot, emphasizing advancements in AI-driven productivity and enhanced automation capabilities. In addition, Microsoft has introduced several key new enhancements, outlined below.

Create Sales Order from the chat
With this release wave 2 2024, Microsoft has introduced integration between CoPilot and Business Central to create Sales Order through the Copilot Chat, which is faster and more effective.
GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio Code
For the Business Central AL developers who are already improving their productivity with the market-leading GitHub Copilot in Visual Studio Code development tools, improvements also await with the upcoming upgrade of Business Central. Business Central enables developers to enhance application metadata with more detail to create a better Copilot experience.
Application Enhancement
Electronic document feature introduced in release wave 2 2024 and has capability to generate digital document from Business Central which streamlines operation through automated workflows and also ensures secure centralised storage.
Additionally, Microsoft has expanded the out-of-the-box integration of service orders between Business Central and Field Service to support seamless data flow between the two applications. Moreover, new reporting capabilities for sustainability have been delivered to help companies track and report their greenhouse gas emissions.
Countries and regions
Microsoft expanded Business Central’s global availability to more than 170 countries and regions.
Governance & Administration
In October, Microsoft will introduce additional self-service capabilities to Business Central, aimed at helping administrators manage access to different environments at a more in-depth level, as well as using the Microsoft 365 Audit Log to audit critical administrator actions. With customer-managed encryption keys and Azure Lockbox, the audit log in Business Central provides 25 new effective options to optimize the protection of users’ data.
Reporting and data analysis
In Business Central, more than 70 Power BI reports are added and Microsoft continues to invest in the basic reporting capabilities of Business Central.
Service and Platform
With Business Central 2024 release wave 2, Microsoft continues to invest in the basic service and app platform and, as usual, there has been a great focus for Microsoft on increasing the degree of availability and improving performance, stability, resource management, security and compliance.
